Flexible online master's of accountancy allows Natalie Goudarzian to continue career while leveling up
Programs like the Online Master of Accountancy and Data Analytics (Online MACC) from W. P. Carey provide the same level of education with the same expert faculty as on-campus options, but with the added flexibility of online learning — which was the perfect situation for Natalie Goudarzian (Online MACC '25).

Choosing to pursue a graduate degree while your career is taking off can feel like a daunting choice, as if you have to put your career on hold in order to return to school.
But that's not always the case. Programs like the Online Master of Accountancy and Data Analytics (Online MACC) from ASU’s W. P. Carey School of Business provide the same level of education with the same expert faculty as on-campus options, but with the added flexibility of online learning — making the program accessible to working professionals in a variety of locations.
This was the perfect situation for Natalie Goudarzian (Online MACC '25). "The flexible online format was a huge plus, allowing me to balance my education with my professional responsibilities," she says. "W. P. Carey has truly given me the tools and connections to take my career to the next level in finance, consulting, or auditing."
The W. P. Carey School spoke to Goudarzian about how her career has led her to pursue a degree in accounting, what her experience in the Online MACC has been like, and where she sees her career post-graduation.
Why W. P. Carey?

When Goudarzian decided to strengthen her skills in accounting by pursuing additional education, there were a few factors that made W. P. Carey stand out from the rest.
"It’s recognized as one of the top accounting programs in the nation, with a strong reputation for integrating real-world experience into its curriculum," she says. Additionally, the Online MACC option meant Goudarzian could continue to work while completing her studies, which was extremely important to her.
Even in an online format, the program offers plenty of opportunities for students to connect with one another and with the School of Accountancy's esteemed faculty. Because classes are held live, students are able to work together and collaborate, sharing ideas and bringing concepts to life.
"Group projects and presentations on real-world cases have sharpened my ability to apply theoretical concepts to practical business challenges," Goudarzian says. "Collaborating with classmates from diverse backgrounds and experiences has provided fresh insights and expanded my problem-solving skills, making the learning experience even more impactful."
One of Goudarzian's favorite classes was ACC 586: Shareholder Value Creation, taught by Professor Philip Drake. "This course has helped me understand how strategic management decisions impact shareholder value," she says. "Through in-depth financial statement analysis, valuation techniques, and case studies, I’ve learned to assess a company’s financial health beyond traditional metrics."
Why accounting?
Over the last decade, Goudarzian has been building her career in merchandise planning, working for large clothing and beauty brands.
"Working with major brands has given me a strong foundation in business strategy, data-driven decision-making, and operational efficiencies," she says. "In my current role as a Manager of Forecast Planning at a global beauty company, I blend analytical insights with strategic business planning to drive successful product launches."
A desire to learn more about the financial side of this industry, and to gain an even better understanding of business strategies, is what led her to a master's degree in accountancy. The Online MACC's integration of data analytics into its curriculum also aligns with Goudarzian's ultimate career goals.
"I’m particularly interested in mergers and acquisitions as well as technology risk consulting, where I can leverage data analytics and risk assessment to drive strategic decisions," she says. "Through the Online MACC program, I aim to build expertise in these areas while strengthening my ability to bridge traditional accounting practices with technological advancements."
What's next?

Another one of Goudarzian's career goals is to earn her CPA designation, which is one of many paths that Online MACC graduates may choose to take. W. P. Carey offers CPA test prep resources to students so they can pass the exam while still enrolled in the program.
Beyond the CPA prep, Goudarzian has found and taken advantage of numerous resources at W. P. Carey to help her prepare for her career after graduation. "W. P. Carey has been instrumental in my career progression by providing networking opportunities, career coaching, and alumni mentorship."
She adds, "The multiple career fairs specific to the accounting major have created meaningful connections with potential employers, expanding my professional network and career opportunities."
She offers advice to those considering the Online MACC program, especially students who are also working, such as herself. "The online program is flexible, but if you're working full-time, be prepared to manage your time wisely because it’s demanding yet incredibly rewarding," she says. "It might feel overwhelming at first, with a lot of information coming at you, but don’t stress — learning something new is exciting, and that’s part of the fun!"
When asked why someone should consider W. P. Carey, Goudarzian says, "W. P. Carey fosters a collaborative and supportive environment, encouraging students to build meaningful relationships with peers and professionals. With a strong reputation for innovation and career preparation, the program equips students with the skills and connections necessary to excel in today’s competitive business landscape."
