Okinawa Hour
Each Tuesday the MBA Multi Culture Association (MCA) puts on a presentation about a specific country or culture. A student from the country or one that has lived there prepares and presents the presentation. Topics usually include food, traffic, clothing, alcohol, entertainment and things to do. The best part is almost always the food that is served during the presentation. It comes from area restaurants or is cooked by students. So far this year we’ve had presentations on India, Italy, Nigeria, Cuba, and Israel to name a few.
This week Mike Conley, a first year MBA student and Marine, presented on Okinawa, Japan. Mike was stationed in Okinawa for nearly two years and has a unique take on the Okinawan culture and military controversy there. We also learned a ton of fun facts about Okinawa — Did you know the Japanese DUI limit is 0.03 and that weapons are not permitted on the island? The food was delicious as usual: Sushi, noodles, pot stickers, fried chicken and wontons were served.
