Frank Lloyd Wright's lasting mark on metro Phoenix house styles

From Arizona State University’s Gammage Auditorium and the Wright House to the First Christian Church, Frank Lloyd Wright gave the Valley its unique architectural style. Naturally, Real Estate Professor Mark Stapp, who is the executive director of W. P. Carey’s MRED program and has deep development ties in the Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale area, was asked to comment.

Real Estate Professor Mark Stapp, who is the executive director of W. P. Carey’s Master of Real Estate Development program, has been involved in planning, investing in, developing, and consulting on real estate for 32 years. So when the David Wright house in Phoenix's Arcadia neighborhood was gifted for the use of the architecture program at Taliesin West on the 150th birthday of Frank Lloyd Wright, Stapp was asked to comment.

“We claim him (Wright) as ours but really he claimed us as his place to pursue his belief at a time when few understood the desert,” Mark Stapp, executive director of the Master of Real Estate Development program at ASU’s W. P. Carey School of Business, told me.

“He is best known for his house designs. He pursued the idea of open floor, opened the house,” said Stapp. “His designs are as relevant today as they were when he designed them.”
